A growing number of towns across America are banning or limiting chain restaurants in their downtown areas. They say corporate restaurants dilute a community’s character, make it less attractive to newcomers and threaten local businesses with unfair competition. Boise has no such regulations, but an influx of chain restaurants downtown has people talking. In this installment of Edible Idaho, correspondent Guy Hand explains.
